Club legend Andy Cole suggests that Manchester United should avoid handing too many first-team starts to youngster Mason Greenwood.

Club legend Andy Cole says that Manchester United should avoid placing too much pressure on youngster Mason Greenwood.

With Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku having both left Old Trafford, Greenwood is now regarded as backup to Marcus Rashford, who is currently sidelined with a groin injury.

That has resulted in the 17-year-old being given extra responsibility by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Cole feels that United should be wary of using the teenager on a regular basis.

The ex-forward told BBC Radio 5 Live: "He's got a chance, he has got a chance. His finishing is a joke. Left or right foot, he's got quality in abundance.

"I just hope they don't, which Manchester United won't do anyway, they won't put too much undue pressure on him. He's got great ability.

"The disappointing thing is he's going to have to get thrown into the deep end a little bit earlier than they would have liked, due to injuries, due to them being prepared to allow [Romelu] Lukaku and [Alexis] Sanchez go."

Greenwood has netted twice from two starts and four substitute outings in all competitions this season.
