Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany believes that his side deserved their 2-1 win over city rivals Manchester United this evening.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has expressed his belief that his side were the better team in this evening's Manchester derby.

Sergio Aguero scored with just over 10 minutes left to secure a 2-1 win for the visitors, closing the gap at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points in the process.

While the title may be beyond their reach, Kompany believes that his side still have to finish the season in good form as that could have an impact on their start to the next campaign.

"A derby is always a special game for us and to be able to win is massive and it will be a great night for us," said Kompany.

"We worked hard, they played offensively and have an unbelievable strike force. I don't think we gave a lot of chances away and in our overall play I felt we were the better team.

"Every game you have to play to win. I do believe the way we finish this season will have an impact on how we do next season. This is a good win to have under our belt and we will take it into the next season."

The earliest that Manchester United could possibly win the title now is in two weeks' time when they face Aston Villa.
