Paul Scholes: Paul Pogba positioning "all over the place"

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes claims that record signing Paul Pogba is trying too hard to impress at Old Trafford and failing to do the simple tasks.

Paul Scholes has criticised Paul Pogba for his early displays in a Manchester United shirt and claimed that the Frenchman is simply trying too hard to impress.

The 23-year-old failed to make a telling impact for the Red Devils on Thursday evening as they slipped to a 1-0 Europa League reverse against Feyenoord, just five days on from defeat at the hands of rivals Manchester City.

Pogba, who set United back a world-record fee of £89m when joining from Juventus in the summer, has yet to register a goal or assist in his first four games for the club.

United legend Scholes believes that Pogba will soon turn things around at Old Trafford, however, as long as he takes on the simpler option at times rather than forcing the issue.

"Tonight wasn't his best performance," he told BT Sport. "I think it will come, it's still early days. I don't really know what position he's playing at the moment. Has he got a position, has he been told to play where he wants?

"He seems to be a little bit all over the place at times - trying to do too much on the ball. He's trying to beat three or four players running will the ball. Just keep it simple.

"If he just plays one or two touches, sticks the ball into Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] and runs - no-one can live with that."

United head to Watford in the Premier League on Sunday lunchtime aiming to end their current run of two defeats on the spin.
