Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he is "delighted" by defender Paddy McNair's decision to sign a new deal with the club.
The 19-year-old academy product penned a contract extension until 2017 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Van Gaal is a firm believer in giving young players a chance, and he is pleased that McNair has committed himself to United.
"Paddy has risen through the ranks to become an integral part of the first-team squad," the Dutchman told the club's official website. "He has all the attributes to develop into a top player. Promoting youth players is very important both to myself and to the club and I am delighted Paddy has signed a new contract."
United continue their Premier League campaign on Wednesday night when they entertain struggling Burnley.
