Manchester United take 'concrete steps' towards signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly taken 'concrete steps' towards signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot during this summer's transfer window.

The Red Devils will sign at least one new midfielder in the current market, as both Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are leaving the club on free transfers at the end of June.

The 20-time English champions remain in talks with Barcelona over Frenkie de Jong, but a second midfielder could also arrive to boost Erik ten Hag's options for next term.

Rabiot has recently been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, and according to Calciomercato, Man United have stepped up their pursuit of the France international.

The report claims that Juventus would consider offers in the region of €15m (£12.9m) for the midfielder, who only has 12 months left to run on his contract with the Old Lady.

Newcastle United and Chelsea are also believed to be keen to bring him to the Premier League, but the strongest English interest is said to be from Man United.

The 27-year-old was an important player for the Old Lady during the 2021-22 campaign, making 45 appearances in all competitions, contributing two assists in the process.

Meanwhile, the midfielder has scored six times and registered six assists in 129 appearances for Juventus since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2019.

Paul Pogba is set to join Juventus on a free transfer at the start of July, though, and Rabiot has allegedly been informed that he is free to seek pastures new in the current market.

Man United have thus far been frustrated in the summer market, and the club's former captain Gary Neville has claimed that he is 'worried' by their lack of progress since the end of the season.

"I know early in the window but it's worrying that United are struggling to get business done. The others seem set and ready yet United can't get moving. ETH needs his group together asap to mould them. Bringing them in late will only make it harder for him! Fingers crossed, it happens soon!" Neville wrote on Twitter.

The Red Devils are believed to have offered a contract to Christian Eriksen, who is seemingly preparing to leave Brentford, but a number of other clubs are also interested in his signature.

Man United have also allegedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Jurrien Timber, with the Ajax defender preparing to remain with his Dutch club for another season.

The 20-time English champions, who are set to begin pre-season training before the end of the month, will open their 2022-23 Premier League campaign at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 7.
