Ayoze Perez: 'Newcastle United must keep going'

Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez hopes to end the season on a high as his side attempt to finish in the top half of the Premier League.

Ayoze Perez has urged his Newcastle United teammates to remain switched on over the remaining few weeks of the Premier League campaign.

The Magpies are left with little to fight for on the face of it in their remaining four fixtures, as they sit 10th in the table - three points ahead of Bournemouth and three behind Leicester City.

Perez concedes that the 1-0 defeat to Everton earlier this week was an opportunity missed for United, who could still finish in the top eight, but he is determined not to let the campaign peter out to its conclusion.

"It's not long to go now, just four more games. We have to be professional and concentrate and do our best," he is quoted as saying by the Newcastle Chronicle. "We were a bit unlucky [against Everton]. We could have scored a couple of times. We go again against West Brom.

"We've done really well over the last couple of months. Our goal is done. We're safe, but now we're going to keep climbing the table. We had a big chance [against Everton], but we didn't take it. We have to keep going and keep pushing. There are just four more games. It's been tough.

"It's been a long season with good moments and bad moments. We had a great run and will be in the Premier League again next year. The run has come to an end, but we have to realise that we've got another game on Saturday and the season is still not done. As professionals, we have to keep giving our best. We could have drawn, but we didn't score."

Newcastle are aiming to become the first promoted side to finish in the top half of the Premier League in five years.
