Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew: 'We don't need to sell in January'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says that the club are in "good shape" financially and do not need to sell their star players in January.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has insisted that the club do not need to sell any of their star players in the January transfer window.

There have been suggestions that midfielder Yohan Cabaye could be offloaded in the winter, but Pardew has claimed that owner Mike Ashley has not put any "restrictions" on their transfer activity.

"At the minute, we're under no pressure for anyone to leave," Pardew told the Shields Gazette. "We have no financial restrictions from Mike, so we're in good shape."

Despite having no need to sell, Pardew did admit that the club would not say no to a big-money offer similar to that involved in Andy Carroll's departure in 2011.

The striker, who now plays for West Ham United, left St James' Park for Liverpool in a £35m move.
