Preview: Perth Glory vs. Adelaide United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Australian A-League clash between Perth Glory and Adelaide United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Perth Glory will be looking to keep their hopes of reaching the A-League finals series alive this Sunday in the penultimate match of the regular season.

They will host Adelaide United who have the potential to secure a second-place finish with a win, depending on other results.

Match preview

Perth Glory head into this match sat in the bottom four as they are currently ninth, but with two games to go the club does still have the possibility of earning a top-six finish.

That is something the club will be pushing for to try and secure a place in the finals series, but a loss this weekend would make that mathematically impossible.

Ruben Zadkovich's men will need a much-improved performance on Sunday if they want to achieve that goal, though, as they head into this match off the back of a 4-1 defeat against Sydney FC.

Despite the fact that Adam Zimarino managed to score an equaliser before the end of the first half, the second 45 minutes was one to forget as they conceded another three.

The defensive side of the game has been a problem for Perth Glory throughout this campaign as only three teams have conceded more than them, and that will be tested again this weekend.

Josh Cavallo for Adelaide United

Adelaide United are one of the strongest teams in the division, which is reflected by the fact they are currently in second place, but they also boast the second-best attack in terms of goals scored.

The visitors may not be able to climb any higher in the league table, but they still have plenty to play for in the final two matches because they are yet to secure second place.

Adelaide United will not be wanting to slip down the league table at this late stage, and picking up as much momentum before the finals series will be crucial for the team.

This is especially important considering the fact they have been unable to win in their previous two matches with a draw against Sydney FC being followed by a loss against Western United last weekend.

A first-half goal from Connor Pain proved to be decisive enough in a game that Adelaide United will be looking to put behind them immediately.

Team News

After serving his suspension last weekend Perth Glory could bring Mark Beevers straight back into the team, with his defensive experience likely to be called upon.

His return will be particularly important as Jacob Muir is not expected to be fit enough to return for this weekend.

The visitors will head into this match missing a trio of important players due to injuries as Juande, Zac Clough and Nestory Irankunda are all unavailable.

They join Josh Cavallo, Jay Barnett and Harry Van der Saag on the sidelines as Adelaide United's squad continues to be stretched with injury problems.

Perth Glory possible starting lineup:
Cook; Elsey, Forde, Bodnar; Beevers, Lachman, Amini, Clisby; Williams, Taggart, Duncan

Adelaide United possible starting lineup:
Gauci; Lopez, Barr, Warland, Kitto; Barnett, D'Arrigo; Halloran, Clough, Goodwin; Ibusuki

SM words green background

We say: Perth Glory 1-2 Adelaide United

This game might mean a lot more to Perth Glory in terms of securing a place in the finals series, as this is a must not lose match, but the visitors could be here to spoil that as their quality should be too much fo the hosts.
