Reading appoint Steve Clarke as new manager

Reading name former West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke as their new manager following Nigel Adkins's dismissal.

Championship side Reading have confirmed the appointment of Steve Clarke as their new manager.

The Royals have not wasted any time in finding a new boss following the sacking of Nigel Adkins yesterday evening.

Clarke, 51, has been out of work since losing his job at West Bromwich Albion just over a year ago.

He takes charge with the Royals 16th in the Championship, 10 points shy of the playoff places and seven above the drop zone.

"We want to close the gap on the teams above us and start moving up the table as quickly as possible. The potential is there," Clarke told a press conference this afternoon.

His first game as manager will be at home to Watford, who occupy the final playoff spot after 21 games of the season, on Saturday.
