Reading 'edging closer' to Chinese takeover

Reading are thought to be closing in on a takeover by Chinese siblings the Dais.

Championship side Reading are thought to be edging closer to a takeover by Chinese siblings Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li.

The Dais, who have a vast property empire in Hong Kong, are now in "advanced talks" to buy the club from its current Thai owners, according to the Reading Post.

Pairoj Piempongsant, the man who brokered the Royals' previous takeover from John Madejski in 2014, was installed as a new director on November 24 and is thought to be a significant figure in arranging the new deal.

Asked about the potential takeover at a press conference this week, Reading manager Jaap Stam said: "To be honest with you I don't how far along it is - or if it is going to go through. I don't know everything about it - but I've heard there might be a possibility that certain things are going to happen.

"So for us, for everybody we just have to wait and see and if it goes through. If it does happen, then it's just about waiting to see what they want to do.

"Maybe they come in and say they want a different manager? You never know what's going to happen. What do they want to do with the technical staff, with the squad that we have, is improving the squad a possibility or not? You never know what new owners coming into a club may want."

Should the deal go through, Reading will become the fourth Championship side this season to gain Chinese ownership, following on from the takeovers of Midlands sides Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City.
