The visitors took a shock lead in the 12th minute when Angel Lafita had the simple task of tapping in Carlos Aranda's cross.

Kaka drew Madrid level on 32 minutes when he collected Ricardo Carvalho's incisive pass before slotting in past Roberto Gago.

Cristiano Ronaldo blazed a free kick over the bar, before Hamit Altintop lashed his effort high and wide as the teams went in level at the break.

It took Madrid four minutes after the restart to go in front as Ronaldo was on hand at the back post to tap in Mesut Ozil's cross.

Ozil got on the scoresheet himself five minutes later when he fired in at the near post from Kaka's pass.

Few chances were created after the third goal as the hosts were happy to play their passing game.

Helder Postiga was foiled by Iker Casillas with 20 minutes to go, while Lafita's speculative drive in the final minutes summed up Zaragoza's desperation.
