Matt Holland thinks that the Republic of Ireland can advance from Group C at Euro 2012 along with Spain.

Former Republic of Ireland international Matt Holland believes that his home nation can qualify from Group C at Euro 2012 despite facing Croatia, Spain and Italy.

Ireland are considered the underdogs in a group which contains the holders Spain and 2006 World Cup winners Italy. However, Giovanni Trapattoni's side are currently on a 14-match unbeaten run and Holland insists that they have what it takes to advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.

"You'd fancy Spain to win all three games and top Group C. The second spot is up for grabs though. There's no reason why Ireland can't get something from both the Croatia and Italy matches," Holland told talkSPORT.

"Croatia have problems. Ivica Olic has picked up an injury and gone home. That's the game we have to target. If we get three points against Croatia then you're off and running. They're beatable.

"Ireland are unbeaten in the last three matches against Italy and face them in the last group stage match. We should target a draw or a win in that game."

Ireland's last participation in a major tournament came in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
