Luciano Spalletti: 'We were not at right level'

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti claims that his team missed a good chance to upset Real Madrid in the last-16 stage of the Champions League.

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti has conceded that his team 'did not do enough' over the two legs of their last-16 Champions League clash with Real Madrid to deserve to make the quarter-finals.

The Serie A outfit lost both legs 2-0 - the second of which took place at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

Roma impressed for periods of the clash in Madrid, but Spalletti has claimed that his team were 'not at the level needed' in order to stand a chance of causing a surprise.

"The reality is that we lost 2-0 twice. It's only right that Real go through. We've got to improve in terms of our mentality and how clinical we are. We weren't at the level we had to be tonight," Spalletti told reporters. "The regret isn't to have lost but to have not played the game with the right conviction."

Roma have not been among the last eight teams in the Champions League since 2008.
