Former France coach Laurent Blanc has revealed that Roma made an approach to him to replace Zdenek Zeman in February.

Aurelio Andreazzoli eventually replaced the Czech, but Blanc says that he could have taken over at the Giallorossi.

"It's true, there was contact," the Frenchman told L'Equipe. "However, we were not on the same wavelength.

"The move didn't happen for various reasons on both sides. I want to take on a challenge, to have ambitions but also time – even if we know what time is like in football. I'm not talking about five, four, three years, but a little time.

"I miss football and the type of challenge a club can offer me, rather than the nationality of that club, will be what my decision is based on. It is my objective to again compete and test myself against Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, those who I consider the best."

Blanc has been out of football management since Euro 2012, when he took France to the quarter-finals.
