Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane: 'We weren't good enough in Monaco loss'

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane concedes that the team 'were not good enough' after they were eliminated from the Champions League following a 2-1 loss to Monaco.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has conceded that he and his teammates 'were not good enough' to get the vital points that they needed in this evening's Champions League group game against Monaco.

Mauricio Pochettino's side slumped out of the tournament with one match left to play after losing 2-1 to the French outfit at the Stade Louis II.

Kane pulled Spurs level from the penalty spot three minutes after Djibril Sidibe put Monaco ahead, but the North London outfit were equal for just 38 seconds as Thomas Lemar nabbed the winner.

"It's disappointing. I don't think we were good enough today anyway," Kane told BT Sport after the match. "We got ourselves back in the game but it's schoolboy error to concede so soon after that.

"It took the stuffing out of us and we didn't have enough to come back in the game. We found it difficult to play out from the back. We're gutted. We wanted to go far but it's something we have to deal with and dust ourselves down.

"We'll look back and say the [two defeats at home] is where we should have been better."

The result means that Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen qualify for the last 16, while Spurs will play CSKA Moscow in a fortnight's time for third place in the group.
