FIFA has banned Dele Alli for one game for making an offensive gesture in England's 2-1 win over Slovakia earlier this month.
Towards the latter stages of the World Cup qualifier at Wembley Stadium, Alli appeared to make an offensive gesture towards teammate Kyle Walker, rather than an opponent or the referee.
The incident was played down by both Alli and manager Gareth Southgate, who has named the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in his squad for the upcoming fixtures with Slovenia and Lithuania.
However, the 21-year-old will now sit out Thursday's contest with Slovenia after FIFA opted to hand a punishment to the player just six days before the match.
A FIFA spokesman said: "Following the incident that occurred during the match between England and Slovakia on 4 September 2017, Dele Alli has been sanctioned with a suspension for one official match, and a fine of CHF 5,000 (Swiss Francs) for making an offensive and unsporting gesture."
It marks another missed fixture for Alli, who has already sat out two Champions League matches this season due to a straight red card in a Europa League match with Gent during the last campaign.
