Preview: St Mirren vs. Dundee - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between St Mirren and Dundee, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

St Mirren welcome Dundee to Paisley for a clash in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

The hosts were one of just four sides to win on the opening weekend and find themselves up near the top of the table after that perfect start last week.

It was a 3-2 win away to Europa Conference League participants Hibernian that has got St Mirren's season off to a flyer.

Being quick out of the blocks saw them lead 2-0 at half time, with Mark O'Hara the influential man with a goal and an assist.

Hibs rallied to peg them back at 2-2, but a last-minute winner from substitute Alex Grieve earned them all three points on the opening day.

After a defeat to Montrose in their first game of the League Cup, St Mirren have now won four in a row, getting off to a winning start in the league as well as sealing a place in the knockout round of the cup.

The next round comes in a week's time, so manager Stephen Robinson will hope his side can make it two wins from two before the league takes a brief break to accommodate for the cup.

It has been a significant upturn in form for the Saints, after failing to win any of their final seven games of last season when they were the league's surprise Championship Group progressor.

Newly-promoted Dundee returned to the top flight with a draw against Motherwell last weekend.

It was last season's Player of the Season Lyall Cameron who scored the second-half equaliser as Dundee wasted no time in getting off the mark.

Any points are welcomed especially at this early stage, as Dundee have finished bottom in their last two campaigns at this level.

Tony Docherty's men are favourites to do so again too, despite coming up as the winners of the Championship last season.

Another result will be much welcome considering Dundee will now not play for two weeks, after their exit in the League Cup group stage earlier in the summer.

Team News

Kenyan Jonah Ayunga will be the only absentee for St Mirren here, as Mikael Mandron could come into the squad after the new signing missed the season opener.

Mandron will face competition though given the scoring form of many of St. Mirren's attackers so far this season.

Both Toyosi Olusanya and Grieve netted in last week's win, while Maccabi Haifa loanee Stav Nachmani netted two in their win over Arbroath in the League Cup.

Dundee face potential injury issues after Juan Portales was injured just five minutes into his debut last weekend.

Josh Mulligan replaced him off the bench and could come into the starting XI to deputise.

There was no debut for Portales's Mexican compatriot Diego Pineda though, as he was an unused substitute.

Goalkeeper Trevor Carson is the other injury doubt for the visitors, with Jon McCracken set to continue between the sticks.

St Mirren possible starting lineup:
Hemming; Fraser, Gogic, Taylor; Strain, O'Hara, Baccus, Tanser; McMenamin, Olusanya, Kiltie

Dundee possible starting lineup:
McCracken; Mulligan, Shaughnessy, Ashcroft; McCowan, Boateng, McGhee, Cameron, Beck; Robinson, Bakayoko

We say: St Mirren 2-1 Dundee

After such a positive result last weekend against strong opposition, St. Mirren will be confident in finding another victory against a side expected to be fighting against relegation.

A point on the opening day was a positive for Dundee, but they face a difficult task in their first away outing of the campaign.
