Mark Hughes keen to build "something special"

Mark Hughes believes that he can "build something really special" at Stoke City in the coming years.

Mark Hughes has expressed an ambition to "build something really special" at Stoke City in the coming years.

The Welshman, who replaced Tony Pulis at the Britannia Stadium in the summer, has endured a mixed first season with the Potters, guiding the club to just six victories thus far.

With Stoke sitting three points clear of the drop zone in the Premier League table, Hughes is confident of winning the club's relegation battle.

He told The Sentinel: "I want to be here for a significant amount of time, if I can, to build something really special.

"This year was always going to be difficult and a season of possible highs and lows, but we will get through it, and be better for it too."

Hughes's side host Swansea City on Wednesday night.
