Sunderland's Jack Rodwell: 'We were unlucky not to win'

Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell believes that his side were unlucky to only take a point from their Premier League clash against Swansea City.

Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell has claimed that his side were unlucky not to beat Swansea City in their Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats fell behind to a strike from Bafetimbi Gomis right on the stroke of half time, but they battled back in the second half through Jermain Defoe.

Both sides had good chances to earn a winner, but they were forced to share the spoils, allowing Dick Advocaat's men to register their first point of the campaign.

"It was a team performance. We needed that after the last two games," Rodwell told the club's official website. The emphasis in training was to stick together and work hard, give the fans something to cheer about and show we are giving 100%.

"I thought we did well in the first half. When the goal came [for Swansea] we didn't really deserve that. We knew if we carried on at the same intensity we would get something.

"To be honest I thought we were unlucky not to get the win."

Sunderland face Exeter City in their next outing in the League Cup.
