Gabriele Ambrosetti joins Swansea City staff

Swansea City confirm that they have appointed former Chelsea midfielder Gabriele Ambrosetti to their coaching staff.

Swansea City have announced that Gabriele Ambrosetti will join the club's coaching staff under new head coach Francesco Guidolin.

Ambrosetti sat in the stands alongside Guidolin to watch Swansea beat Watford 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night just hours after the latter had been confirmed as the new boss until the end of the season.

Ambrosetti, who spent four years at Chelsea during his playing career and also played under Guidolin during Vicenza's 1997 Coppa Italia triumph, will now work alongside his former manager and Alan Curtis at the club.

"I'm really happy to be here. Francesco was my coach so I know how he works and his style, and he also knows how I work. We kept in touch all the time, and as soon as he asked me about going to Swansea with him I quickly said yes," the 42-year-old told the club's official website.

"The first thing I felt when I arrived here was passion – from the people in the city, the staff, the players. Having the type of welcome we both had makes us feel so comfortable, and that is important when you are in a new country. It's a great club and I will do my very best to help the club push up the table.

"It was great to see the game on Monday because the guys played very well and we picked up three important points. We have really good players here and it was great to see how supportive the fans are. They made a lot of noise."

The club have only confirmed that Ambrosetti has taken up a role among their coaching staff, but the Italian has changed his Twitter bio to suggest that he will act as the assistant manager - a position Curtis was originally expected to fulfil.
