James Beattie takes on Swansea City coaching role

Former England and Southampton centre-forward James Beattie joins Garry Monk's coaching staff at Swansea City.

Swansea City have confirmed the appointment of James Beattie as a first-team coach.

The 37-year-old, who played alongside Swansea boss Garry Monk at Southampton, will mainly be responsible for coaching the Welsh club's senior strikers.

"I've known James for a long time. He is intelligent, has a great knowledge of the game from his experiences as a player, coach and manager. He thinks about the game in the same way as myself," Monk told the club's official website.

"He has some bright ideas and, despite already having a fantastic knowledge of the game, he is still looking to learn at every opportunity."

Beattie, who was capped five times by England, has been out of work since he departed Accrington Stanley by mutual consent in September 2014.
