Swansea City 'to appoint Francesco Guidolin as new head coach'

Swansea are set to appoint former Udinese boss Francesco Guidolin as their new head coach, according to reports.

Swansea City are set to appoint former Udinese boss Francesco Guidolin as their new head coach until the end of the season, according to reports.

The Italian is expected to join the struggling Premier League outfit in order to work alongside caretaker manager Alan Curtis in an effort to stave off the threat of relegation.

Swansea only announced that Curtis would be in charge of the team until the end of the season 10 days ago after they failed to find a permanent successor to Garry Monk.

However, Curtis was still open to the idea of a new man taking the reins before the end of the current campaign after watching his side fall to a 4-2 loss at the hands of relegation rivals Sunderland on Wednesday.

The Swans dropped into the relegation zone yesterday following Newcastle United's win over West Ham United, and BBC Sport now reports that chairman Huw Jenkins will appoint Guidolin in the near future.

The 60-year-old has managed at a number of clubs in his home country, most recently with Udinese before leaving in May 2014.

Swansea's next match comes on Monday night as they host Watford at the Liberty Stadium.
