Garry Monk: Andre Ayew will not be "one-player saviour" for Swansea City

Swansea City manager Garry Monk says that new signing Andre Ayew will not be a "one-player saviour" for his side next season.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has praised the impact made by new signing Andre Ayew during pre-season, but has insisted that the former Marseille winger will not be a "one-player saviour" for his side.

Ayew, 25, signed for the Swans on a free transfer last month and scored his first goal for the club in a friendly against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, despite Ayew's previous experience as a player in the Champions League, Monk says that the South Wales side will not rely solely on the Ghana international next term.

"It was a great finish at Forest but he brings that quality," he told reporters. "You can see it clearly and you can see he is a very clever player as well. But we can't put too much pressure on him. He is obviously a very good player with a very good pedigree, but our hopes don't rest on one man. He is not going to be a one-player saviour for the team or anything like that. He is a team player and everyone has to be contribute.

"I do think he will bring quality and he has experience as well - I already hear him talking to the group within games and within training sessions. He brings that. But it's not for him to go and score all the goals and create all the chances - everyone has to do that.

"Hopefully what he can do is bring that experience and quality that he has. Everyone else can look at that and they can step up as well."

Swansea's Premier League season kicks off away to Chelsea on Saturday, August 8, with the side's final pre-season friendly taking place against La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna this Saturday.
