Jeremy Mathieu says that he is prepared to play in central defence for Valencia against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu has said that he is willing to play at centre-back once again against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The Spanish side are without injured central defenders Ricardo Costa and Adil Rami for their Champions League last-16 second-leg clash in Paris.

This means that coach Ernesto Valverde could play full-back Mathieu and Victor Ruiz in central defence against Carlo Ancelotti's side just as he did against Levante in La Liga on Saturday.

"I always try to do my best and I was happy to have played 90 minutes on Saturday," UEFA.com quotes Mathieu as saying.

"I was a little afraid to play [at centre-back] but little by little I began to feel better. I don't know if I am back to 100% [fitness], but I am almost there.

"The [Achilles] injury itself is completely forgotten and at no time was I feeling pain."

Valencia lost the first leg 2-1 at home last month.
