West Bromwich Albion reportedly end their pursuit of former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder as talks have broken down between the manager and club.

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly ended their pursuit of former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, in the club's quest to fill their vacant managerial role.

Sam Allardyce confirmed just before the end of the season that he would not be continuing his job at the Hawthorns after the Baggies suffered relegation from the Premier League, and since then West Brom have held talks with Wilder.

The 53-year-old has been the front-running candidate to take the reins in the West Midlands, with his CV boasting a promotion to the top flight with the Blades, and a successful first season in the top division during the 2019-20 campaign.

However, according to Football Insider, talks with Wilder have broken down as the club have reservations over giving the job to Yorkshireman, and they will now turn to alternative candidates.

It is believed that Wilder is keen on a return to management after leaving Bramall Lane by mutual consent in March, and it remains to be seen who West Brom will turn to next in their search for a new boss.

The Baggies are set for a season in the Championship next year with the fixtures due to be released on June 24.
