David Moyes "gutted" with Manchester City defeat

West Ham United boss David Moyes reveals his disappointment following his team's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham United boss David Moyes has revealed his disappointment following his team's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Angelo Ogbonna sent the Hammers ahead at the Etihad Stadium, but second-half goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva secured all the points for the home side.

Moyes has admitted that he was "gutted" with the final result, but has paid tribute to his players for an impressive performance away to the Premier League leaders.

"We are gutted we lost but we played against a really good side and I thought for long periods we frustrated them - arguably we had the best chances in the first half," Moyes told Sky Sports News.

"So I'm ultimately disappointed not to take something from the game, but I'm really pleased with the players. We were always quite good in the counter, with power and pace up front, you are thinking maybe this is our day but unfortunately the chance at the end just went past the post.

"I think we should have done much better with the winning goal. If you are a centre half in that position you would head it away, so I'm disappointed we lost the ball, but we were playing a young 18-year-old centre half (Declan Rice) who did really well today."

The result has left West Ham 19th in the Premier League table on 10 points.
