Fabian Delph says that 'patience' was key in Manchester City overcoming West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Fabian Delph has claimed that 'patience' was key in Manchester City's overcoming West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham took a shock first-half lead at the Etihad Stadium, but goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva ensured that City would re-open an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Citizens have now won their last 13 Premier League matches, and Delph has said that the team's attention has already switched to next weekend's derby with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

"It was difficult, teams seem to come here and get every man behind the ball, not interested in anything but parking the bus," Delph told Sky Sports News. "But we have players like David Silva in the team, so we knew if we kept going we'd get our chances.

"We knew we had to be patient, we came out flying in the second half, we tried to explain to the boys we still had time and then we started to relax a bit more and found those spaces. We want to win the derby but we are taking it each game at a time."

City have won each of their last three Premier League matches 2-1.
