Wigan Warriors have beaten St Helens RLFC 28-10 in the first derby at the new Langtree Park stadium.
Saints started well and went ahead when Francis Meli went over, but Thomas Makinson was unable to convert.
The lead was short-lived and the Warriors struck back when Darrell Goulding touched down. Josh Charnley was able to convert to put Wigan in the lead.
George Carmont then extended the lead to give Wigan a 12-4 half-time lead.
Saints struck back after the break when Sia Soliola managed to apply downward pressure with his wrist despite the best efforts of Sam Tomkins.
This time Makinson was able to add the two points and put Saints back in the game.
However, it was Wigan who conjured a powerful finish, with tries from Tomkins, Gareth Hock and Jeff Lima to condemn the hosts to their fifth defeat of the season.
