Michael McIlorum handed three-match ban

Wigan Warriors hooker Michael McIlorum is handed a three-match ban and a £300 fine for a high tackle on Castleford Tigers winger Kirk Dixon.

Wigan Warriors hooker Michael McIlorum has been handed a three-match ban for a high tackle on Castleford Tigers winger Kirk Dixon.

McIlorum was charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel for the tackle, which caused Dixon to leave his side's eventual 36-31 victory with a broken jaw.

The Warriors hooker was given a £300 fine in addition to the ban and will now miss matches against Hull Kingston Rovers, Warrington Wolves and Catalan Dragons.

McIlorum, who was sin-binned for the tackle, chose to appear in front of a disciplinary panel alongside head coach Shaun Wane to hear the verdict having refused the option of entering an early guilty plea.

Castleford winger Justin Carney was also fined £300 and given a warning about his future conduct after admitting a Grade A charge of punching during the match.

Wigan currently sit 10th in the Super League table having lost two of their opening three fixtures, while Castleford are joint top with a 100% record.

McIlorum recently committed his immediate future to the club by signing a new contract.
