Denis Istomin defeats Sam Querrey to win first ATP Tour title

Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin beats American Sam Querrey 7-6 7-6 to win his first ATP title at the Aegon Open in Nottingham.

Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin beat American 12th seed Sam Querrey to win his first ATP title at the Aegon Open in Nottingham.

Istomin overcome the big-serving American by a 7-6 7-6 scoreline to move 22 places up to 70th in the world rankings before the start of Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old had led by a set and a break, but despite Querrey fighting back to force a tie-break, he couldn't take the final into a decider.

The American had been looking for his first tour title since this event in 2012.
