Tomas Berdych: 'Wind hampered my serve'

Tomas Berdych reveals that the wind caused him problems while serving during his US Open semi-final against Andy Murray.

Tomas Berdych has admitted that he struggled to serve during his US Open semi-final encounter with Andy Murray earlier today.

The world number seven, who has a trademark high toss, often saw the ball catch the wind. As a result, he was forced on numerous occasions to abort his service attempt.

Speaking after his four-set defeat to Murray, Berdych described the conditions as an extra "opponent".

"The wind was one part of opponent, so it was a really tough one," Berdych told reporters. "It affects my serve a lot because I have a higher toss. When I'm not able to serve, and go for the first serve and I'm not making straight points from the serve, then that's not my game.

"So actually, it was quite hard to adjust to that, because I'm normally not used to that."

Berdych had never previously reached the final four in New York.
