Aston Villa announce that defender Tyrone Mings has penned a new long-term contract at the Premier League club.

Aston Villa have announced that defender Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract.

Mings has made a total of 149 appearances for Villa in all competitions, initially spending time on loan at the club before completing a permanent transfer from Bournemouth in 2019.

Such has been the level of his performances that the 29-year-old has earned 17 caps for England since making his debut in October 2019.

There was a time under Steven Gerrard when Mings lost his place in the starting lineup, despite his status of club captain.

However, aided by Villa needing to replace long-term injury victim Diego Carlos, Mings has since gone on to make 19 starts in the Premier League this campaign.

Although Mings missed out on selection against Manchester City last weekend, he has been a regular since Unai Emery replaced Gerrard in the dugout at the start of November.

While Villa have not formally disclosed the length of Mings' new deal, BBC Sport claims that it will run until the end of 2025-26.

Emery has previously suggested that Mings could recover from a thigh injury in time to feature in the starting lineup against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
