Javi Martinez hints at Bayern Munich exit

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez hints that it could be time to move on when his contract with the Bavarian giants expires in the summer of 2021.

Bayern Munich stalwart Javi Martinez has hinted that he could leave the Bundesliga and Champions League winners when his contract expires next summer.

Martinez has been a regular fixture in Bayern teams since arriving in 2012 and has already turned out 13 times for the Bavarian giants in all competitions this season.

However, the 32-year-old is no longer a guaranteed first-team starter at Bayern, and with the Spain international now in the final months of his deal, he has admitted that he would like a fresh challenge before he hangs up his boots.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Bayern's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, Martinez said: "This is not the moment to discuss what will happen in June 2021. Anything can happen. I had great years here and we will see what happens.

"I would like to try something new, no matter where, but something new before I end my career. The contract says it is the last year. I am happy to be here now and I am part of the team and that is what is important."

Martinez has hit the back of the net 14 times in 251 appearances for Bayern, where he has won eight Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns over the last eight years.
