Brighton & Hove Albion confirm that they have allowed midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud to join Stuttgart on loan for the rest of the season.

Brighton & Hove Albion have announced that Mahmoud Dahoud has linked up with Stuttgart on a loan deal for the rest of the season.

During the summer, one of the first pieces of business conducted by Brighton was securing the free transfer of Dahoud.

Much was expected of the 28-year-old who was making the switch from Borussia Dortmund, and a place in the team became available when Moises Caicedo left for Chelsea for a British transfer record.

However, Dahoud has failed to establish himself at the Amex Stadium, being restricted to nine starts and five substitute appearances in all competitions.

The most recent of those came all the way back on December 9, Dahoud being withdrawn at half time of the 1-1 draw against Burnley.

Since then, Dahoud has remained as an unused substitute on four occasions in Premier League fixtures before not being selected in the two most recent squads.

As a result, head coach Roberto De Zerbi has given the green light to a temporary switch to Stuttgart, who are the third German club of his career after Borussia Monchengladbach and Dortmund.

Technical director David Weir told the club's official website: "This is a good move for Mahmoud. It will give him an opportunity to play regularly for a side doing very well towards the top of the Bundesliga. We wish him well for the rest of the campaign."

Brighton are no strangers to doing business with Stuttgart with forward Denis Undav currently impressing during his time at the MHPArena, scoring 12 goals in the Bundesliga for the Champions-League-chasing side.
