Transfer news and rumours: Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Serie A, Burnley chasing EFL star, Fresh Edson Alvarez bid

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including a Serie A title contender chasing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Monaco upping their interest in a West Ham United midfielder.

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reportedly received interest from a Serie A title contender.

With the England international having entered the final six months of his contract, he is in a position where he can hold discussions with foreign clubs.

Having scored just twice in 19 Premier League appearances this campaign, it remains to be seen whether Everton will be open to a sale for a cut-price fee before the end of January.

Nevertheless, according to The Sun, Atalanta BC are seeing the value in trying to secure the signature of the 27-year-old for the start of 2024-25.

The Italian giants have allegedly sent one of their representatives to England in order to hold talks with the long-serving frontman.

Sitting in third position in the Serie A table having scored 43 goals from 19 games, there is an argument that Atalanta will not require the player until next season.

That said, it remains to be seen whether an early deal will become an option once the relevant parties have concluded their discussions.

Burnley chasing EFL star?

Meanwhile, Championship promotion candidates Burnley are allegedly trying to bolster their squad with the acquisition of Plymouth Argyle attacker Morgan Whittaker.

Having conceded just nine times in 26 second-tier fixtures, the Clarets hold one of the most impressive defensive records in Europe, yet Scott Parker's side have netted only 31 goals.

According to Sky Sports News, Burnley have submitted an official offer for Whittaker, who has been a regular for bottom-placed side Plymouth.

While only three goals and one assist have come from 18 league outings, the 24-year-old netted the winner as Plymouth stunned Brentford in the FA Cup on Saturday.

As it stands, the size of the proposal is unclear, but it was claimed in the summer that Plymouth valued Whittaker in the region of £10m.

There are still two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

Monaco up interest in West Ham midfielder?

Back in the Premier League, Monaco have reportedly made a second attempt to secure a deal for West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez.

Earlier this month, the Ligue 1 outfit are already said to have made a loan proposal for the Mexico international that was rejected by the Hammers.

According to the Daily Mail, Monaco have since returned with a fresh bid to try to tempt the Premier League side into facilitating an exit.

Alvarez made his 19th appearance of the season in all competitions on Friday night as West Ham lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the FA Cup, being selected in Graham Potter's first starting lineup.

Although West Ham may need to oversee departures to make notable incomings, it is suggested that Alvarez remains an important player at the London Stadium.
