Barcelona reportedly put together a proposal for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who has less than three months remaining on his contract.

Barcelona have reportedly offered a contract to Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

Despite his status as a key man at Anfield, the Netherlands international is free to speak to foreign clubs, with less than four months remaining on his existing deal.

Wijnaldum insisted earlier this week that he would be "devastated" to end a highly-successful five-year spell at the Merseyside giants.

However, according to Football Insider, he appears one step closer to departing the Premier League champions after contact from Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are said to have identified the 30-year-old as one of their priority targets, partly due to the player being available on a free transfer.

Wijnaldum has made 39 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, his game time increasing due to Fabinho and Jordan Henderson being required to deputise in defence.
