Marouane Fellaini: 'Manchester United will improve me as a player'

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini thinks that his new surroundings will help him become a better player, and quickly.

New Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has declared that high standards at Old Trafford will help him improve markedly as a player.

Fellaini started his first game for United in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen, with a debut from the bench coming three days earlier against Crystal Palace.

The Belgian midfielder has thanked his new teammates for making the £27.5m switch painless, while insisting that he has noticed increased expectations early in his time with the Red Devils.

He told the Daily Mail: "It is different here, compared to Everton, and everything is in place to help me improve as a player.

"I am surrounded by better players, with more quality and better technique, and they have also demonstrated how much they care about me settling in quickly.

"They have gone to the trouble of spending time with me and offering advice, talking through any questions I wanted answering. The experienced players have been great with me, but others have played a part as well. They all have, and I appreciate it. It has helped me feel at home."

The 25-year-old is fighting to keep his place in David Moyes's starting XI this weekend, as United face local rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
