Real Madrid identify Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres as the ideal replacement for Sergio Ramos, according to a report.

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Villarreal's Pau Torres as the ideal replacement for Sergio Ramos.

Los Blancos recently announced that Ramos would be leaving the club on a free transfer this summer, while Raphael Varane continues to be linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

According to AS, Carlo Ancelotti's side will be signing at least one new centre-back this summer, and Torres is viewed by the Spanish giants as the ideal acquisition in the current market.

The 24-year-old, who is with the Spain squad at Euro 2020, excelled for Villarreal during the 2020-21 campaign, making 44 appearances for the Europa League winners in all competitions.

Manchester United have also been strongly linked with the Spaniard, who is thought to have a £50m release clause in his current deal with the Yellow Submarine.

Torres has made 87 appearances for Villarreal since debuting for the club in 2017.
