Werder Bremen cruise past SC Paderborn to climb off bottom

Werder Bremen climb off the bottom of the Bundesliga table courtesy of an easy 4-0 win over SC Paderborn.

Werder Bremen climbed off the bottom of the Bundesliga table with a comfortable 4-0 victory over SC Paderborn at the Weserstadion.

It was an impressive start to the game from the hosts, and they were rewarded for an extended spell of early pressure when Zlatko Junuzovic curled home a free kick in the 10th minute.

Despite enjoying their fair share of possession in the first half, a lack of creativity in the final third would be a big disappointment for Paderborn on a frustrating afternoon.

Lukas Kruse ensured that the visitors remained on level terms heading into the break by getting a strong hand to Davie Selke's effort from just a few yards out.

However, Kruse was unable to prevent Bremen from pulling away with two goals in three minutes in the early stages of the second half.

Selke scored his side's second from close range after Junuzovic had hit the post with a free kick, and the result was secured soon after thanks to Fin Bartels, who latched onto a weak punch from Kruse to convert from the edge of the box.

Paderborn failed to force their way back into the match, and Bremen piled further misery on the visitors with 10 minutes remaining when Levent Ayciek picked out the top corner with a powerful strike after being found by Selke.
