Premier League clubs 'furious with Newcastle takeover'

Premier League clubs are reportedly left furious after a Saudi-backed consortium completed their takeover of Newcastle United earlier this week.

Newcastle United's Premier League rivals are reportedly infuriated after the club's takeover was given the green light.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that a Saudi-backed consortium had completed a highly-anticipated takeover at St James' Park, bringing Mike Ashley's controversial 14-year spell to an end.

Newcastle's new owners and Amanda Staveley have announced their intentions to bring domestic and European silverware back to St James' Park, but the takeover has not been received well by other clubs.

According to the Daily Mail, the other 19 top-flight clubs are preparing an emergency meeting with the Premier League to demand why Newcastle's takeover was allowed to go ahead.

The report adds that Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were all strongly opposed to the move, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy making a 'futile' attempt to stop Newcastle's new owners landing lucrative sponsorship deals.

Newcastle have already been linked with numerous high-profile transfers following the takeover, with Philippe Coutinho supposedly in talks over a move to the North East.
