Arsenal are allegedly giving consideration to moving for Orlando City forward Facundo Torres during the January transfer window.

Arsenal have allegedly identified Orlando City forward Facundo Torres as a potential January signing.

The Gunners are currently enjoying their best season for a number of years, continuing to sit at the top of the Premier League standings after 12 matches.

As many as 10 victories have been recorded during that period, the latest coming on Sunday as the North Londoners thrashed Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.

However, injuries to squad members has resulted in Mikel Arteta having to name stronger sides in the Europa League than he would have ideally wanted, leading to more game time for key players.

Despite their encouraging position in England's top flight, it was reported earlier this month that Arteta will be given the funds to add fresh faces to the senior group, potentially receiving a warchest in the region of £50m.

While a portion of those funds would be spent on a new central midfielder, the Spaniard is also said to be keen to add more depth in the final third.

According to the Evening Standard, that has resulted in Arsenal expressing an interest in signing Torres at the midway point of the campaign.

The report claims that Arsenal and the player's representatives are due to hold discussions ahead of possibly attempting to push through a deal.

Torres has just enjoyed an impressive campaign in the MLS, contributing nine goals and eight assists from his 34 appearances in the division.

Notably, the 22-year-old chipped in with at least one or the other in 15 of his outings, his efforts coming on a consistent basis rather than over a shorter period.

Torres has subsequently put himself in contention to represent Uruguay at the World Cup, being named in the 55-player provisional squad.

However, the versatile winger has not featured for his country since November, leaving him as an outsider to make the final 26-player group for the tournament in Qatar.

Orlando City remain in a strong position with regards to his future with three years still remaining on his contract at the Florida-based club.
