RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has acknowledged that he expects interest in Dayot Upamecano before the end of the January transfer window.
During his spell with the Bundesliga side, the 21-year-old has established himself as one of the most highly-regarded centre-backs in world football.
With just 18 months remaining on his contract, the Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to a bigger club during 2020, including Arsenal.
However, while acknowledging the quality of the player, Krosche feels that Upamecano should remain in Germany until at least the end of the season.
Speaking to reporters, Krosche said: "Dayot is currently one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, so it would surprise me if no clubs came knocking for him.
"He's certainly an attractive player for the big clubs in Europe but he can still take a few steps forward and develop with us."
Upamecano has made 18 starts in the Bundesliga and the Champions League this season.
