Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali says that Arsenal have made an official bid for Italian midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed that Arsenal have made an official bid for Manuel Locatelli.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a strong 2020-21 campaign at club level, scoring four times and providing three assists in 34 Serie A appearances, while he has also been in impressive form for Italy at Euro 2020.

A recent report claimed that Arsenal had made an opening bid for the midfielder, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta keen to bring him to the Emirates Stadium during this summer's transfer window.

Carnevali has revealed that an offer had been lodged by the North London club, but they will face intense competition from Juventus for the Italian's signature.

"Arsenal have made an official bid for Locatelli. They're pushing hard to sign Manuel and it's an important bid... we will see. Juventus also want Locatelli and we have a special relationship with them. A new meeting has been scheduled with Juve," Carnevali told Sky Italia.

Locatelli only has two years left to run on his contract with the Black and Greens.
