Grant Holt ready to grab opportunity following Christian Benteke blow

On-loan Aston Villa forward Grant Holt is hopeful that he can get more minutes on the pitch following the injury blow to Christian Benteke.

Aston Villa's on-loan forward Grant Holt has insisted that he will try to fill the void left by Christian Benteke at Villa Park.

The Belgium international will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup in Brazil after rupturing his Achilles in training last week.

In the striker's absence, Holt is hopeful that he can get more playing time following his first Villa goal in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Fulham.

"I've been waiting to play and you don't want minutes because of what's happened but when it comes it's an opportunity to rise up and put a performance in," the Birmingham Mail quotes Holt as saying. "The only thing which bothers me is what the other ten people on the team with me think."

Holt has started twice and made five substitute appearances since signing for Villa on a short-term loan from Wigan Athletic in January.
