Aston Villa appoint Colin Calderwood as assistant manager

Aston Villa announce that they have appointed Colin Calderwood as the club's new assistant manager after the Scot left Brighton & Hove Albion last week.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has said that he is delighted to have brought in Colin Calderwood as the club's new assistant manager.

Bruce has recorded 12 points from his opening six games at the Championship club, but that has not stopped him adding Calderwood to his backroom staff after the Scot left Brighton & Hove Albion last week.

The 55-year-old told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to bring Colin to the football club. We've got an experienced guy and a good football man. It was important for me to get someone of his nous.

"When I heard Colin was interested he shot to the top of the pile. We interviewed two or three people. But once I knew Colin was available there was only one person I wanted here."

Calderwood has previously managed Northampton Town, Nottingham Forest and Hibernian but he arrives at Villa Park after spending the last four years as assistant to Chris Hughton at Birmingham City, Norwich City and Brighton.
