Shay Given eyeing summer exit from Aston Villa

Shay Given admits that he is hoping to leave Aston Villa on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Shay Given has admitted that he is hoping to leave Aston Villa on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.

The Irish goalkeeper, who is behind American Brad Guzan in the pecking order, has spent time on loan at Middlesbrough this season and refused to rule out the possibility of another temporary move in the near future.

"Hopefully something will happen in the summer somewhere," Given told reporters. "It has been really frustrating not playing.

"That's obvious for everyone to see and the window doesn't open until the summer, so maybe there is a Championship club out there who might want me.

"I might go back out on loan again somewhere before the end of March. Aston Villa want me out of the door, so something might happen."

Given has two years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park.
