Sven Bender pleased with 1860 Munich reception

Sven Bender is happy that Borussia Dortmund managed to beat his old side 1860 Munich and acknowledges the applause he received.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender was delighted with the reception he received from both sets of supporters during his side's 2-0 extra-time win over his former club 1860 Munich in the DFK Pokal second-round clash.

However, Bender said that he was disappointed that the match had to go to extra time as they dominated the entire contest but could not get the breakthrough in 90 minutes.

"Of course, whenever we have midweek fixtures, [extra time is] the sort of thing we want to avoid," Bender told Bundesliga.com. "This time, though, we get an extra day's preparation. Then we've got to get back on it against Freiburg on Saturday.

"Say what you will about the statistics; the important thing is we got through. No one's going to be talking about them after the game. We won and achieved our goal.

"It was really special, something extraordinary. To be applauded like that by both sets of fans doesn't happen every day. I savoured the moment. It shows what great fans we have in Dortmund and what great supporters the Lions have. I'll never forget it."

Bender has made 99 league appearances for Dortmund since joining from 1860 in 2009.
