Celtic hit three past Lincoln Red Imps to progress in Champions League

Celtic progress through to the third qualifying round of the Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Lincoln Red Imps.

Celtic have eased to a 3-0 victory over Lincoln Red Imps to secure their place in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

After last week's embarrassing defeat in Gibraltar, Brendan Rodgers and his side were under pressure to deliver in front of an expectant home crowd and they started positively with Moussa Dembele seeing a shot deflected wide.

Moments later, Callum McGregor drilled a shot off the crossbar before seeing another effort tipped onto the post, but midway through the half the Scottish side took the lead after Mikael Lustig met a free kick sent in by Stuart Armstrong.

Two minutes later, Leigh Griffiths put the Bhoys ahead on aggregate after cutting inside from the right before driving a right-footed effort past the goalkeeper, and the tie was as good as over when Patrick Roberts added a third before the half-hour mark.

After playing a one-two with Armstrong, the on-loan Manchester City player curled a shot into the bottom corner to leave Celtic Park rocking.

The Scottish champions pushed for a fourth before the break but Dembele and Kieran Tierney both failed to beat Raul Navas in the Lincoln net.

Needing two goals to remain in the tie, Lincoln threw men forward at the start of the second half but despite earning a succession of corners, they could not find the breakthrough.

Back up the other end, Griffiths and Dembele both failed to make the most of openings inside the penalty area before Griffiths was denied a second late on after another save from Navas.

Lincoln managed to get through to full time without conceding another goal but it will be Celtic who advance through to face FC Astana in the next round.
