Celtic hit out at lack of Calum Butcher punishment

Celtic claim that it is "illogical" for the SFA not punish Dundee United's Calum Butcher following Sunday's Scottish Cup quarter-final.

Celtic have hit out at the Scottish Football Association's decision not to punish Dundee United's Calum Butcher following Sunday's Scottish Cup quarter-final.

Butcher's teammate Paul Paton and Celtic's Virgil van Dijk were sent off during the 1-1 draw at Tannadice Park, but Dundee later lodged an appeal to overturn Paton's red card, citing a case of mistaken identity.

Celtic have now claimed that it is "illogical" for Butcher to escape punishment after his part in the fracas.

"It seems completely illogical and fundamentally unfair that, in an incident where mistaken identity has been claimed, the Dundee United player now identified clearly as being involved in the incident appears to have no case to answer - and would be available to play in the League Cup final and the Scottish Cup replay between the two teams - while Celtic's player may potentially miss both of those matches," read an official club statement.

Celtic and Dundee meet again on Sunday in the Scottish League Cup final.
