Celtic boss Ronny Deila has told Virgil van Dijk's reported suitors that an £8m bid will not prise the Dutch defender away from Glasgow this summer.
The 23-year-old has courted interest from the Premier League after a fine season at Parkhead, with Arsenal, Southampton and Everton among those interested.
However, when asked if an £8m offer would prove enough to sign the centre-back, Deila told the Daily Mail: "We would say no because we would get that at Christmas also, maybe more.
"This is the problem. There is much more money in the Champions League – and we would be losing one of our best players.
"So this is an easy thing to talk about. We would rather be in the Champions League than sell Virgil van Dijk. If we don't get to the Champions League we then we have to take that decision after, we can't do it before."
Van Dijk joined the Scottish Premiership champions for a reported £2m from Groningen in 2013.
